Well folks, I could not wait until baseball season to begin so in the past 2 weeks I have been tweaking with a proprietary betting system for the NBA. This one is quite interesting because I don’t even watch the NBA! However, a true test this will be because I should not have to watch a sport to build an analytical system based on that sport. In addition, a true system should be stand alone; meaning you should never allow emotions to cloud your thinking or stray from the goal. The goal of this system is to pick out improprieties in the spreads in order to gain an advantage on our bets. We are no longer throwing our money at a team because we like them, because we are a deep rooted fan of the team, but when we have a clear advantage!
The proprietary betting system for the NBA, or “pbS”, works the same as the pbS for the NFL. The pbS figures an advantage # which in this case will be compared to the actual spread. For these purposes I will give an example from Sunday, Feb 6th. pbS calculated an advantage of 8.69 for Indiana over New Jersey. The line was Indiana at -1.5 yielding a difference of 7.19 points. pbS tells me that in a perfect world Indiana should be giving 8.69 pts, however, because it is only giving 1.5, the bet is on. Indiana won the game 105 to 86, crushing the Nets by 19. Thus far over 2 weeks pbS is returning at exactly 60%. Since I recently tweaked the system to be a little less “loose”, I would expect to see the percentage rise over the next two weeks to somewhere between 63-67%.
Alright enough of the talk, let’s get to the action (especially before game time). pbS has two games for tonights action:
Bet Chicago over Portland -3.0 (this did not hit the full threshold so this is a more risky bet)
Take Golden State over Phoenix -5 (the advantage here is a whopping 11.22)
Good luck and please read my disclaimer below.
